Journalism or PR?

Hello. I'm currently working as a journalist for a regional daily newspaper. I enjoy my job, but I want to change. I'm thinking about going into PR, as the money is so much better, but I'm unsure as to whether I could be happy with the change. Also, I like my current status of not being beholden to anyone.

Has anyone made a similar move, and welcomed/regretted it?

Dozens and dozens have made the move. Some move back. You have to ask yourself one question: Would I be happy extolling the virtues of mini-cube crumpets or a new firm selling an electrically-controlled rabbit-hiuch cleaner? If the answer is Yes then you aren't really a journalist and the newspaper game really wouldn't miss you. If the answer is No then stop moaning and get on with it. What did you expect? Loads of lolly for very little educational effort? Here's another thought: How good is your shorthand? 100? 120? Or perhaps you only did shorthand in the first year at "university." What's that? You haven't got a good shorthand note" Well, what a surprise.
Harry....... leave it!!
Very funny, xrays. Still smiling here. You'd have made a good journalist. Cut the waffle and get to the point. Excellent.
No problem H. I wouldn't have made a good journo though..... as you know, I can't spell!
