I think you are over-reaction a tad, Teddio,

AB offers the following disclaimer "Disclaimer: The information provided here should not replace the advice of a medical professional or be used for "definitive" diagnosis. If you are in need of medical attention please contact your GP or out-of-hours doctor, if you need help finding this information,"

But people will often want some additional sources of information than via their own GP/MD/Medical Professional, who they may not be able to contact right at that moment.

It can be useful and interesting to read problems and the informed opinions from posters here. Whilst it is obviously difficult to verify the bona fides of individual posters in an anonymised forum, those who have been reading for some time will recognise the value and experience of at least some of the regular posters here.

And of course, everyone is fully entitled to disregard any or all advice posted...
Depends on the size and type of tumour (adenocarcinoma, squamous-cell, transitional-cell, yada yada).

30 Gy of radiation may be sufficient to nuke it into non-existence, or robotic prostatectomy might be indicated.

The treatment/management plan may also depend on whether the cancer is hormone receptor positive.

As sqad said, you can also choose maintain a watchful wait.
Sqad, take 20mgms of ibetoken, and just sit back and monitor the situation:)
This is a public site teddio and there is no need to protect the poster from the answers, he's looking for opinions and personal experiences. The more the merrier I should imagine.
Sqad is right .My eldest brother died recently .He was 84 and had prostate cancer for many years
What got him in the end was entirely unrelated to the prostate cancer
My husband has had two ops for prostate problems
( non cancerous ) but nevertheless he now suffers from from urge incontinence .Only because the second op was done after after major surgery for another problem .
I would take Sqads advice having seen the outcome with my husband .

Teddio, sometimes the doctor will give that advice or be able to say that this or that option is IN HIS/HER OPINION better, with the reasons, but often they won't and then its helpful to talk to other sufferers and others who may have the expertise to have a view.
At that age I would go for radio therapy. But it depends on the Gleeson score. Make sure that the results are checked over a period of time as infection can effect the score.

My husband is only 55 with prostate cancer. He has about 120 radioactive rods in his prostate and that's it. However I understand that should this not cure it he can't have a prostate removal later.

Sqads answers must be very useful to many on a site like AB and I'm sure many have benefitted from his medical advice. Alright you can get stacks of info through the internet nowadays but the quantity available is mind blowing and you either get confused or feel every sympton has a fatal conclusion.

Also the personal expriences of many just goes to show the range of medical solutions there are. No doubt in the NHS costs play a major part in choosing the options. Some drugs are not dispensed because of the cost. Also treatments with lasers as mentioned above which seem to be very successful are not available to NHS patients.

Keep up the good work Sqad.
pdq1......LOL.

Absolutely spot on.
If a patient is told the treatment options available to him, but given no advice, how is he supposed to know which might be best?
