no, even my beloved Yo Yo Ma wasn't playing live at the other inauguration.
Didn't someone mangle the words once, trying to sing it live?
i believe that is why it's not live, in case someone screws up
Too much chance of a mistake singing live very few performers would risk it.
if beyonce doesn't sing "live," surely that's more proof obama isn't really an american citizen?
oh come on, of course he is...

She literally could've been singing in Hungarian. I could barely make out a single word.

A phrase my sister coined when describing singers who 'over-sing' songs. I really like Ms Aguilera, but she has a habit of slipping into 'caterwauling mode' every now and then.
Incidentally, I'm sure John Redwood would have loved the opportunity to practice and then properly lip sync! Media URL: http://youtu.be/RIwBvjoLyZc
Description:
outside in Washington in midwinter? There's a high of minus 4 there today (realfeel minus 11). Not a great time for singing or playing live, really.

Of course when I were a nipper we used to stand outside in 6 foot of snow singing the Star Spangled Banner every day... only three of us actually died.... but the performers of today are such wusses.
sp, i can't stand that type of singing, the warbling, wonky notes, i quite like Christina, but you are right she does that sometimes.

It was tongue in cheek boxy, Obama's new tenure getting off to a shaky start etc.
Also, how did I spell Inauguration incorrectly? That's the scandal!
Can't stand some singer's habit these days of 'over singing' . A lot of contestants on the x-factor try to emulate this, thinking it sounds impressive. It's not, it sounds horrible.

Totally agree dave50.
The precedent was set when Whitney Houston delivered the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 1991.
Since then it seems that every singer(especially the females) who has performed it since at similar functions is trying to put their own 'spin' on it, often failing dismally.
Must be a diva thing I guess.
