My '97 Landrover Discovery TDI has started making a 'rumbling' noise when i put 'power on' (accelerate). It immediately stops when i lift my foot off. The noise is accompanied by a good deal of vibration too. Otherwise theres no lack of power. The engine has covered 109k. Any ideas from Disco enthusiasts out there?

Thanks

Get your gearbox checked, there was a fault with these from that model year and a "Rumbling" noise was a sympton.

It could get expensive though.

Thanks for that Radar, I've heard of this too but was hoping it might be something else.

I would get your gearbox checked. Is it only happening in one gear, or all the gears. Also does your Disco have an automatic gearbox or manual? If it is an automatic, try getting the gearbox fluid changed. If it is a manual, find a new gearbox. Best places are a company that breaks vehicles or a scrap yard where you can take a gearbox out. Buy a Haines manual and fit it yourself. Land Rover gearboxes can last over 200K, as my Defender is still on its orginal gearbox at 203K.

Hope this helps.
