I have just run a "free"programme called spyware4 which claims to have found 1768 threats to my computer, when I click on 'Fix threats' it requires €35.69 from me to do so. Should I pay this, or try something else please?

1768 threats - do you really believe that?

And surprise surprise, they want money to fix it!

Google for the free 'Malwarebytes' and get a true picture - and it won't cost anything to get rid of any genuine problems it finds.
It's a con. These are good.

In both cases go for the free option. I have used them both for ages ( for best results you must apply them weekly) Usually do mine Sunday morning.

What on earth made you download and run such a programme; which is certainly a Con. If in doubt always post first on AB for good advice.

I only hope you have cleared out the programme from your computer, because it is itself, nothing better than malware.

Thanks, I have removed the spyhunter programme, the desktop icon has gone too, but the icon remains on the taskbar, how can I remove that please?
If you have definitely removed the full programme, you may find that the icon will disappear after a close-down and restart of your computer.

Try a Systems Restore to maybe 1 or 2 days ago.Good luck..bestdriver
DO NOT do a system restore as suggested above, it will make things worse!

vivandorron; Thanks, I just did a restart and it has gone.
Cheers....Ron.
never run programmes offered to you over the internet. Do as others have suggested: download the free Malwarebytes and run it once a week. Plus have something like MSE or Avast (also free) running all the time.
You will probably find that the only threat on your computer was this spyware4. Unfortunately, it's due to people paying money to these con merchants that persuades them to keep these things going.
