Thanks Daniel. And I'm pleased to see that I'm a £20 runner up from 2091. I think this is my fourth "reward" for persistence...
What a pleasant surprise - thanks Daniel.

Well done Barry, we always like to see ABer's being successful.
Yes, a nice surprise and not too much of a strain! Well done Barry again!!
A nice surprise indeed: I wasn't expecting one this week. Pretty hard to complete without the appropriate entry from Brewer, though.
Thank you, Daniel. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
Same from me, Daniel!
Some pretty obscure ones today ...........and I once thought Brewer's was some kind of Pub Guide to Britain.........................
A Happy & Successful 2013 to all Speccie fans!
This is the first time for ages ( six months or so ) that I have had chance to look at a Spectator crossword and I am very rusty. I think/hope I have the theme/connection but of the clued answers 32 down is proving well beyond me. Any hints would be appreciated. Also the 18th edition of Brewers is not providing me with any great inspiration for some of the unclued answers.
novalis: Are you sure you have the right theme? All the unclued answers (incl. 32d) are listed under a 6-letter heading in the 18th ed. of Br. which is a synonym for the title in the context of power!
.............sorry, NOT incl. 32d of course: afraid I've sent it off without a copy. Maybe if you could give me your "crossers" I could remember it. I think in fact it was "nicker": yes, double def. in Ch.!!!
Many thanks for your help Maurice. I had tried all manner of head-word in Brewers but not the most obvious one.
Thank you Daniel.
Have all the clued lights but cannot get the theme. Have only concise Brewer's
