only 5 days late I guess but it's nerve wracking, mum-to-be seems quite chilled out and relaxed though. Still not sure I should run her to the hospital when she's ready to go, it's 16 miles away, what if I need hot water and towels? I'll have to imrovise, I'm in the AA, would they help?

relax dotty

when the contractions start there will be plenty of time to get to the hospital

congratulations to you all
LOL, chill dot, everything will be just fine.
Calm down dotty, as long as you get a bit of notice beforehand she'll be fine.
Just make sure your windscreen washer is topped up, your petrol, and take a cushion and blanket, and a flask of hot tea. Gas and air? she'll be fine, don't worry.
Is this her first baby? If not the labour 'may' be quite short and you may need to have some blankets in the car just in case.

no it's her second, my granddaughter is 14 months old now, I've asked my son whether they can ring an ambulance if needed and they can, guess it depends on what the midwife tells her on the phone when she rings in.
I don't think the AA would help dotty. AA in this case stands for Avoid Ambulance calls.
I suppose they might give you a relay to the nearest hospital if you're covered for it.
I hate to scare you but second babies can be very quick to deliver, myself and two of my sisters had less than half an hour labours with our second babies, my daughter also had a short second labour (1 hour). You will be fine if you just make sure you have a bottle of sterile hand wash and some blankets in the car.
Good luck.
:)
Don't want to panic you but my second was v quick. (PS - I had my third in the house (by mistake) and I still had my trousers on.)
There must be a joke somewhere there sherrardk but I'll avoid thinking of it.
My OH had three and they all were long births so I just depends I suppose.
Parkdale, it was all a bit surreal - bit like the first time you do your grocery shopping on line.
Lol sherr. :)
Our first was a helluva long time arriving, could have driven to Cornwall and back. The second was an entirely different story, quick as a flash!!

this is what i have been trying to explain to my son, without sounding alarmist, i was in labour with him for almost 48 hours, long enough for shirley bassey to pop into the next ward and visit her mum twice, (st davids cardiff) but my second, my daughter, decided she wasn't going to hang about, i had my first pain about 2,30pm just after havinga roast dinner at my mum's and she was born at 4.45pm, between thoe times in have a vivid memory of screaming at my husband as he drove me to billinge hospital, lol that was a 15 mile journey and we only just made it.
