Dont know how to type the correct symbols on here( all help gladly received!).

But what is the easiest way to find the square root of a number?

I know for example that 8 squared is 64, but how say do you find the square root of 196?

Smow we were taught better I reckon. I say to my children I help, didnt the teacher tell you how to do this, and the look at me like I am crazy!
Prime factorization is the best alternative.

Well no we used slide rules and log tables which were slow and easy to make a mistake on.

It's a bit like saying before we had power steering people had to use their arms!

I don't agree with you at all. Understanding arithmetic is very important in my view.
