Explain why and how the programs of the Great Society developed in the 1960s. Bring up specific examples to illustrate this. Also, explain how “political commitments in the decade and a half after the war laid the groundwork for the welfare state that emerged in the 1960s” (759). In other words, explain how the programs of the Great Society developed, at least in part, because of events and policies that occurred in the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s. Finally, explain what is implied by calling this the “Great Society.”

You can find everything you need to know here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Society_(band)

Don't forget to mention the Vietnam War, Richard Nixon, psychedelia, LSD, San Francisco, Haight-Ashbury, soup kitchens, free shops, head shops etc.
LBJ is worth a mention, too.
Homework / coursework is supposed to teach you how to think....try it sometime.
Come on AB'ers. Get cracking with your essays!! ;o)
never was any good at history or geography so cannot help with your homework, sorry.
When LBJ was told his plans for the Great Society would scupper the Democrats he replied that it's better to do what's right than what's expedient. Though probably not in those exact words.
and music, you have to mention joan baez at least, the peace movement and students
And the slogan: 'Hey, hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?' while he was setting in train plans that he hoped would change the plight of the poorest of Americans.
If I spend 3 days answering this will I get an A* too ?
