Why first class postage?

Received our first Christmas card today - nothing too unusual, as this person always sends them early. What puzzled me was why they'd used a first class stamp. With 3 weeks to go, there was plenty of time for it too arrive. Some people obviously have money to throw away! If only......

Yes, Eddie, I remember that too. Those were the days.....(don't get me started!)
When I was young our local post office had two postbox slots in the wall. They were marked "local" and "other".
I usually get six of one and half a dozen of the other. I have a few who live quite a long way off so I put first class on those.
There are still double post boxes. Slots are both now marked collection 5:30 - must really help the tourists.

Always wondered if there were two sorts of postmen or if they had different coloured sacks. Happy days.
