Is white gold 'bleached' or is it an alloy of gold and another metal? Has white gold ever been more expensive than platinum? Is it harder than platinum?

I'm no expert but white gold is an alloy of gold and another metal or metals; I believe there are various versions. I can't imagine that white gold was ever, or would ever be, more expensive than platinum. Incidentally, white gold seems to be more available now than it used to be - perhaps because silver jewellery has become popular in recent years, and white gold does not clash silver jewellery.
There is a very detailed article on the subject by the Chard Jewellers at http://www.whitegold.co.uk/whatiswhitegold.html
I own one metal detector from http://www.detectorall.com and when I went to the beach I always took it there and it can give me some surprises. and I also can take it to the park to or find the metal goods, such as coins and so on. It has also helped find the ring that I lost in the garden, this is really great.
