We live in a very nice area, but it is spoilt by IGNORANT dog owners who let their dogs MESS outside our gates/brick piers. We & some of the neighbours are sick of having to hose down & clear up other people's DOGS MESS. Is there an effective spray, powder or explosive, that will deter these 'cute little animals' from this very discusting habit? Thanx.

there are various sprays" Wash & Get Off Ready To Use " can be bought on line or at pet stores. haven't tried it myself but friends have and say its good. there is also pepper powder - good luck
You could try following them and depositing the mess on their garden/doorstep. Signed... responsible pet owner!

Thank you for very much for your suggestions, we will visit our local pet shop today to look at all the alternatives you mention. I actually sprinkled loads of dustbin powder around the gates last night & I thought that as it's white, the irresponsible dog owners may take the hint! Also, the they only seem to venture out late at night, or very early in the morning, so there's not much chance of catching them. But believe me when I do, they will certainly get a mouthful from me! Cheers pepes.
I once had this problem, i recomend u deal with it like this: shoot them, SHOOT THEM ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had the same problem myself and found that once I had written on the pavement in chalk a message to the effect of 'Please dont let your dog sh!t right oustside my gate' the neighbours did the same and the incidents were drastically reduced, the chalk was washed off and the problem solved.... this only works for dogs with their human owners as if the dog is unaccompanied it is too close to the writing to read it for itself :o)
ram it back up their little ars*s when it is hard and dry - they will soon get the message.

I am so pleased we're not the only ones with this problem! Also not the only ones who are NOT dog lovers! My husband has always referred to them as 's**t machines' & how right he is now! The last replies had me in stitches! Cheers all.
There is some stuff you can get from farm stores which farmers use to keep foxes away. It smells like creosote and is very effective when put on rags or sticks.

Keeping Foxes away, umm! We have seen them walking along our road in the early hours too, so thank you we shall try that idea!
I have a similar problem. I've even got the environmental wardens onto the problem. They're patrolling here more regularly. I can't seem to catch the filthy idiots who let their dogs do it there.

I'm unable to use the chemicals suggested... the area used by the dogs/owners is a patch of the grass verge right outside my driveway gate. If I use chemicals as suggested, it'll kill of all the grass on that area.

Any suggestions for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
