Major is an Army rank. The equivalent in the RAF is Squadron Leader and, in the Royal Navy, Lieutenant Commander.

RAF rank structure:

Pilot Officer

Flying Officer

Flight Leuitenant

Sqaudron Leader

Wing Commander

Group Captain

Air Commodore

Air Vice Marshall

Air Chief Marshall

This page shows you how the various ranks (roughly) equate to each other across the Armed Forces:

I'm not sure what has prompted this question, but the air forces of many other countries, including the USA, do have Majors.
