it is Mr BM's birthday tomorrow. I know his son would like him to have a cake (Mr BM isn't bothered, but his son will want this). I could just do a plain cake with a fondant icing top and write on it.

On the other hand, I could do a slightly more unusual one. It can't be too complicated because I don't have all that much time. So a themed cake might be a good idea.

Any ideas what I could do? Mr BM's main hobby is formula 1. He also likes DIY, decorating, cars....

I'm looking for a quick flash of inspiration, please...........

mark out a circuit and put little plastic sports cars on it perhaps holding candles
You could do a big square sheet cake and decorate it as a black and white checkered flag.

Both good ideas. Mallyh your idea is probably the most likely because I've only got round tins!
you could do a figure of eight circuit

I like the idea of having lots of little different cakes rather than one big one!
onion cake
mmmmm :P
Save time and trouble...pop into Tescos for a cake with a plain topping and do as Mallyh suggests.

I'm a total cop out. I spent all day driving round town looking for a lobster to do lobster thermidor (his favourite) and ran out of time, so I bought a cake from M&S. However, I have another birthday to cater for in 2 weeks, so I shall use these ideas then!

Thank you all.
