Black Mass (6.66%) from Abbeydale Brewery, Sheffield.
A beast of a brew !
Very dark ruby ale with a rich, creamy head. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee and burnt toast. Full bodied and warming with strong flavours of bitter chocolate, fruitcake, raisins and hints of cherries. A lingering bitter finish.
Available at the 'Post Office Vaults', Birmingham, which is a top class Real Ale Pub.
After last weekend's Beer Festival it's back to the Real Ale Pub Beers.
We tried several 'new' Beers along with one of our favourites i.e 'Jaipur' from Thornbridge Brewery.
If anyone else has their own favourite please add it to the Post...

Actually it was pretty good supposed to be a stout but if you close your eyes it could easily be a winter amber ale
Sounds very nice, strong though.

I used to enjoy a pint or two of Guinness. How do beer connoisseurs rate it?
Black Mass sounds like my ideal ale. I'd love to try it. In fact I'd be tempted to sell my soul to the devil....

Never been to the Post Office Vaults, but will go there next time we're visiting MiL in Brum.

Guiness is classed as a Keg Beer sandy !
Have never seen it on Hand Pump or on Gravity feed
I shall endeavour to be there, Redman.
I used to enjoy a bottle of Makesons Stout, but I don't go to pubs very often nowadays, do you know if it is still made?
you are truly blessed to have a pub serving such a wide range of ales on your doorstep Redman!

It's not just one Pub Booldawg, there are several to choose from within easy walking distance of each other in City Centre. Always a good choice of Cask Ales
I've always fancied getting together a pub crawl around London. Theres some fantastic olde worlde real ale pubs.

I think the 'best pub in britain' (last year) was awarded to a pub in Covent Garden. London prices too I bet!
Question Author
Plenty of good Pubs around London, Rowan and myself are thinking of trying the 'Falcon Inn' in Clapham Junction next time we are down there, not far from where her Mum lives. It's a Nicholson's Pub with plenty of Cask Ales on offer

Sampled on a recent trip to Bruges. Went down a treat, but after 4 bottles I needed to visit the toilet and only then did I realise how tipsy I was!!

lol lol That's a serious Beer jd ! At 9% it deserves some respect, but the Belgians do brew some very good Beer.
talking of london and belgian beers theres a bar in central london called 'Lowlander' that sells all these Flanders/Trappist ales.

French supermarkets are brilliant for specialist ales. Such a wide variety and really cheap. I always pick up some Krieks, Tripels etc over there.
Redman, the reviews in my link express the beer far better than I could. But my recollection (fuzzy as it may have been) was that the beer was fantastic as was the setting, a lantern lit courtyard underneath one of Bruges cathedrals. It is a very fond memory and I wouldnt want to drink this beer anywhere else, it was the setting and the beer combination. Oh well, will have to go back!!
