I cannot find out what Clattenburg actually said to Obi however he called another player a spanish tart, presumably that was Torres! link for where i got this info http://www.mirror.co....nited-referee-1405484
He called Mata a Spanish Snag, apparently said worse to Mikel judging by reports that Mikel went into the refs changing room after the game, as did Ron Gourlay, John Terry, and Di Matteo. Shouts of "I'll break your legs" we're also heard, so I think Clattenburg may have overstepped the mark on this one. As for calling Mata that term, Mata is down to earth and does not give refs abuse, Torres however does. Should he be found guilty, he will most definitely be sacked.

I am a Chelsea fan so when it comes to my statement, it may seem biased. However, my sources are from sky sports, the mail, the mirror and the guardian. The decision to send off Ivanovic was correct, Torres incorrect. Contact was made, however small, therefore a player can't receive a booking for simulation. I would say the hostile environment at the Bridge
Got to Clattenburg and he lost his cool. But being a ref, you must always maintain control. He lost it with his decisions, simple as.

Fred.
Well Fredman I wonder if you would agree with me that, considering his brutal challenge on Tom Cleverley, Torres should not have even been on the pitch in the second half?
Do you not think that this is typical Chelsea ! They are the worst losers ever and to have John Terry go into Clattenburgs office after the match and start shouting the odds when he wasn't even on the pitch just says it all about him as a person ! as if he isn't bad enough ! JT is a racist thug ! Proven.
Why won't Chelsea just shut up and move on. They lost the game so boo hoo ! Idiots and typical bad sportsmen as awlays from the overpaid prima donnas. The stuff they call the refs which can be lip read on tv is disgusting but nothing is said about that. Good on Clattenburg he was no doubt correct as they are all Snags anyway. Chelse losers!!
"Contact was made, however small, therefore a player can't receive a booking for simulation."

I can't say I agree with that 100% Fred. If a player makes minor contact and the other player is capable of going on, then why should he go down? It should not necessarily mean a booking, although ?I am not saying that this ois what happened in Sunday's game.

I have a friend who is a referee and he is insistent that any player who goes down but is not fouled should be red carded, and this causes endless arguments between us. Players moving at high speed can fall over or trip up, hardly actions deserving of a red card. If we are to target divers, and I believe we should, then we need to make sure we get it right.
Duncer......I agree with almost all you say except....

\\\I have a friend who is a referee and he is insistent that any player who goes down but is not fouled should be red carded,\\\

Agreed, but when there is contact whether intentional or not and no part of the ball has been touched....it is a foul.

Who is to say that a player thus "touched" should not have gone down?
When one is running at speed, the "slightest touch" may bring a player down and is hence a foul. Yes, perhaps the player "could" have remained in equilibrium, but there is no way that can be proved and as such a foul must be given in my opinion.

Torres was fouled.....;-)...in my opinion for the reasons i have given.
'when he wasn't even on the pitch'
When has that ever stopped John Terry
Afternoon. I've reposted this as a sticky as we had something like 20,000 visits to this single question on Monday (as a comparison, we got 8,000 to /crosswords - our most popular category!).

As I know nothing about football, that is as far as my commentary goes :)

And there I thought he, Clattenburg, said "Would you like a sandwich or teacake, and a cup of tea, Darjeeling?"
good to know people are pouring into AB in the hopes of finding some choice swearwords. Perhaps the swear filter could be turned off for 24 hours in hope of keeping them here?
Agreed, but when there is contact whether intentional or not and no part of the ball has been touched....it is a foul.

Agree 100% sqad, I was just trying to illustrate the dictatorial attittudes of some referees, and a lack of any common sense. Therre are many reasons for a player going down, (phnar phnar), and not all are simulation. That is not to condone divering however.
