Roman numerals

One of the most commonly asked questions on Answerbank is what is such-and-such in Roman numerals. But why is that practically every person who asks this question spells the word 'numerials'? Or is it the same person using lots of pseudonyms?

I am the first to admit that my spelling isn't great and that my typing leaves a lot to be desired, but at least I can spell definitely right! It is amazing how many people spell it incorrectly.

If you search Google for 'Roman numerials' this site is the first thrown up: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF
-8&q=roman+numerials (it's also the first thrown up if you search for 'numerials'). Hence, if you start with the wrong spelling, you are likely to arrive here. That said, there are 400 other sites listed which contain the word 'numerials' so no, it doesn't appear to be just one person.

I think it's probably just one of those words that an awful lot of people get wrong all the time. (Drowned -> Drownded, Ask -> Arks,Communal -> Communial, etc.) They are one of my major bugbears.

thanks katejess, you've posted lots of good answers. i am guilty of not knowing how to spell definitely until now, as a lawyer its not a word i use very often and i's assumed there was an a in it for some reason, learn something new every day :-D

It's true, definately is another very common error. For years I was convinced that similar was spelt similiar, but I think that was just me getting confused with familiar till someone pointed it out!
