I'm not a fervent eco-warrior but I do want to do my bit for the environment and preserve resources/save money.

I caught up with a friend today who proudly announced that she washes every garment they wear.....after one wear.....including jeans!!! She also irons just about everything.

How important is it to you to look after the environment and what steps do you think are reasonable to take as part of every day life? And what would you/wouldn't do?

I do my best by saving water and power, can't aford much fuel anyway, but I was told today that someone wants to ban people from reusing jam jars and sauce bottles for home made jams and chutney, I don't know the whole story but I have been using some of the same nice jars for yonks, and cant see why I shouldnt do so, does anyone know about this?
Yes I heard something about it. Don't see what anyone can do if you are keeping them for your own use. The WI might lose out though.
Morning Eccles : )

I'm pretty good - I recycle all glass, plastic, paper, card. All food waste too. All unwanted clothing goes to charity shop. All son's unwanted toys and books go to local childrens home or charity .
Dishwasher/washing are use on lowest/shortest setting wherever possible. All lights are off when not in that room. All clothes are mended if torn rather than just thrown out.
We recycle, rarely iron, wash clothes only when they need it (apart from daily underwear) - I do tumble-dry if stuff cant dry out of doors. Careful with water (a meter helps!), reuse boxes and bubble wrap for packaging.

Non-local food drives me mad - I had a row with the produce manager in Tesco a couple of years ago - hard black Spanish plums on sale when the Kentish plum farmers were ploughing theirs back into the ground.
And what was his answer boxy?
That reminds me boxtops - we are very good with water as well.We are on a water meter. Even if ive boiled something in a saucepan I save the water, cool it and throw it on the plants - that sounds sad actually lol.
cost, ladybirder. Buying shedloads of rock hard Spanish plums is cheaper than local fat Victoria plums in lesser quantities
In Poole you can have an extra large recycling wheelie bin if you exchange your refuse bin for a smaller one, I tend to recycle a lot more now, but having four kids our washing machine seems to be on a 24hour cycle along with the tumble dryer ! but i don't wear jeans just the once then put them out for the wash (unless someone suffers from incontinence its seems a bit extreme)
I have a tumble dryer but can count on one hand the times I have used it - I would rather put up a clothes airer in the spare room and put the washing on that if its raining outside.

I'm actually thinking about putting my tumbler on freegle, same as you Smow it hardly ever gets used.
Morning ! Do you have the local FB forums where you can post items for free? just search 'groups' and it will come up with whole list of local towns/buying and selling forums.

Am hoping to do a whole days cooking in bulk soon for the freezer - chilli, lasagne etc.
recycle clothes to friends charity shop, any bottle, paper and all that goes to our recycling bins. That is it really. It is important to look after our world, but that is down to the governments in charge to make sure we do. That means not polluting the atmosphere, cutting down rain forests, sadly places like China are not big on worry about having green credentials. As to USA surely the biggest polluters on the planet.
