Ed I have noticed lately thsat some people are using what looks to be their real names as user names. Now I know that we are supposed to be grown up and sensible but this strikes me as not a good idea. Yes i also knoe thas you are not the net nanny but is there a warning against this in the sign up process?

There's no proof that's their name. People should be able to work it out themself..Woofgang.

You'll be wanting Ed to wipe their bum's next in case they get a bit smelly.

I know what u mean, Mr Gang.

LOL @ Lou !

p.s. - I think it's Mrs Gang :)

I think it is just that these people have a sense of personal place in the world and that using anything other than their real names would appear to them to be in some way cowardly/dishonest/hidingbehindapersona/ just an idea.

Incidentally, I think andy hughes has been around since the dawn of time. In those halcyon days it was the normal thing to use your own name. It would be thought you had something to hide if you didn't.
Does that mean you are all of the above mentioned Dot since you are the one with more aliases than anyone else?
hey Linzi, irony goes right over your barnet don't it?

Hi dot. Who is Linzi? I see no post by any Linzi. Was she hi-jacked by ABED's robots?

I take it that Barnet = Barnet Fair = Hair?

I don't think that it should be forbidden, just wonder if in the sign up process it is pointed out that it may have unwanted consequences.
a warning probably wouldn't hurt. But it's not necessarily the case that people use real names even when they seem to. For instance, I've seen it suggested that Mrs P Swayze may not be.

What possible consequences could there be by using your own name? I can't see the harm in it.

Thanks,

Wayne Rooney.

Hi woofgang

Most people do not use their real names as aliases/usernames in online forums such as this, and we do, in our Site Rules mention that people should not post personal identifying information, including their full name.

I would not like to assume as to know why some people may choose to use what looks like their full name as an alias/username.

We will however, keep your suggestion to include a warning in the registration process in mind as we continue to develop that area.
