Google Chrome popping up new windows at random

The last few weeks Chrome has been opening new windows at random when I change tabs, I've seen it's happened to a couple of other people but had no answers yet. There are no 'open in new window' options like the others I can find but this is happening on its own whatever boxes have been checked or not. Is it a known issue and can I stop it happening as it makes it a lot harder switching between windows.

can you not uninstall chrome? and use internet explorer or even better firefox
I had the same last week. A new window tab opened a strange search too. I restored to two weeks before and it is fixed.

Personally, I still prefer chrome. Internet Explorer seems to have gotten less user-friendly with each new version.
I don't think it's a known issue - I've certainly never seen it happen.
You do know that if you put the mouse on a tab, click and drag, it will create a new window? Maybe you have a wobbly mouse?

IE crashes too often for my liking although far better when it does behave. Firefox is OK but can scroll badly and not always run certain apps properly, so went for the compromise. It has no choice how to open new links, the default is adding a new tab and there are no options, but if you switch tabs ten times it may open a new window for it once. I've used it for a few years now and it never did it before a few weeks ago and waited for a long enough trial to see it was long term. I have filed a report to them but doubt I'll hear anything. I certainly can't click a tab differently each time, otherwise it would have happened since I started using it.
If it makes you feel any better, David, I'm having the same issue.

Right pain in the neck.

I've had a look around and is a design fault Google allowed by not offering user options. I haven't tested them yet but they have described it all here with some possible solutions which appear to need clicking each time which is more trouble than it's worth. http://www.mydigitall...nd-pop-up-in-new-tab/

It is now a known issue caused by a bug and a patch has been released, I hope it does the job as it's pretty annoying http://blog.gadgethel...-tabs-opening-window/

It's a lovely smart site but can now confirm the patch doesn't do a thing. At least we know there's a problem though and may have to pack Chrome in unless they fix it.
