I'm having problems accessing some sites, including this one and the DM, and keep getting a message that IE is having trouble recovering the page. Other sites e.g. the BBC work fine, but today the problem is worse than ever..................any ideas please?

I've had that problem on and of for about a month, phoned BT broadband help line 0800 111 4567 and Paul in Mumbai tweaked the signal from his end and it seems not to bad now.
Question Author
Funny that Tony as I've only been getting this problem since Paul in Mumbai tweaked mine.................
Well phone Paul in Mumbai back and get him to retweak it.
Question Author
hmmmm.................
Check your internet setting through >Tools>Internet Options>Privacy.... Then select the "cover" you want, i.e Medium, or Medium-high. It may be that you PC is taking longer to load the page than your browser allows to load the site, hence your error message.
Question Author
It's set at Medium Nibble.............I've never changed it.
Paul in Mumbai ^^^^^^.
Does your browser have a site checker installed? AVG and Norton both have these and it can cause issues the same as those you are having.
Craft, do you have any other browsers to try it on, such as firefox or chrome?
Question Author
Where would that show daffy? All I know is that I haven't changed any settings myself recently (I wouldn't dare). Paul in Mumbai is looking a distinct possibility............
Clear your internet cache, craft, you'll probably find it full of tracking cookies, which will all load before your intended page does.
I'm not sure where it would show on a browser as I don't use a site checker myself. I would think it would be in the bar at the top. Or you could check in programs and settings/add remove programs (control panel).
Question Author
I've got something on the toolbar called Norton Safe Web Lite.......................
That "maybe" the issue, as it will check the site before your virus scan loads the page, hence your timeout. :|
That sounds like it Craft, is there a way to disable it to see if you can access the websites without it?
Question Author
But don't I need it to make sure the sites I visit are okay.................and now I'm getting the bloody 'The website cannot display the page' text at the top of this page whilst I'm typing this. I haven't seen that for ages.

Try going into your antivirus and reset the internet settings to default, that worked for me when I had this issue.
