You can only send via NTL's SMTP server from an NTL/Virgin connection so yes you will need a new address, you soon won't be able to receive your NTL emails either as they will delete the account once they get around to it. Best bet is to get yourself a GMAIL or Hotmail account or somesuch and then you won't have to worry about changing it in the future if you change ISPs again.
Forgot to say, meanwhile just put Sky's SMTP details into your mail app and you should still be able to send using your NTL account.

how do I put sky's SMPT details into the mail app Fitzer
I had this problem some time ago and was advised to get an e mail address with a Hotmail.co.uk suffix and this has worked great. It means that if in the future you decide to change service provider you do not have to mess about with changing your e-mail settings. You can do the same thing with g.mail.

Hope this helps
There's also MAIL.COM which is a FREE mail service.
