Going To A Big Party Alone

I'm going to the 40th Wedding Anniversary Party of friends of mine who my late husband was Best Man for. The host was our Best Man when we were married too.

I'll be seeing lots of old friends whom we never really socilaised with over the years, in other words we didn't mix with them on a regular basis.

What time does anyone think is the best time to arrive? The invitation says 7.30. Should I arrive right on time or should I give it a while for others to arrive and then mix with them then. I don't want to be one of the first to arrive and then people think they might be "stuck" with me. TIA.

I don't think cath meant to take YOUR wedding album, but photos from the couple's wedding (you probably have some since your late husband was best man). I'd get there 7.45-8pm - I hate it when we are holding a party and nobody turns up at the beginning.

Actually I think you are incredibly brave.
FWIW I think nothing is better at getting attention from people than 'I think I have an old photo of you here'.....
If I were undertaking this adventure, I would have an exit strategy planned eg 'I could only order my taxi for 9.30' or similar.
Good luck - paint on a smile and I'm sure the rest will follow.

Thanks for all your input guys.

I got through it and really enjoyed it. There were so many people that I hadn't seen for years and years so it was a case of...."I haven't seen you for years Chrissa" and, dare I say it, "you look great".

I saw "old boyfriends" in more ways than one, (grey hair) and although a bit doddery on my heels as I'm not used to wearing them, I managed. Cheers.
Well done you, your husband would be so proud of you x
No one will be stuck with you as others have said, but so lucky and proud to be in your company.
Go have a great time share those good times and don't feel you can't cry because you can and tears and memories get us through x
well done, chrissa - onwards and upwards - so glad you went and that you enjoyed it!
