23d archon?

How many letters for 11a and do you have any of them?

11a. Does "pretended" fit?
ARCHON is correct. The other is ENTITLED.

Thanks for the response, biley. As you may guess, I didn't have a copy of the grid and nothing was disclosed by looloo.

Under 11a, I was trying to work on the line of "The Young Pretender" ... claiming the throne!

Yes, I quite see what your reasoning was, crofter. The good thing is you were trying to help and I am sure looloo will appreciate that. As you say it is quite difficult giving answers when you do not have the crossword or know how many letters the clue requires. I was in the position of having done the crossword online and it was therefore easy for me to backtrack and find the answers!
