hi, how much money in petrol (approx) do you think it would cost to go 25 miles in a car that does about 35MPG?
There are too many sums involved for me (plus a gallon/litre conversion), and i'm trying to work out whether it's worth it to get my parcel redelivered to my local PO at a cost of £1.50, or go and pick it up myself, 25 mile round trip. My sense is it's cheaper to get it redelivered

Rough cost in petrol will be about £4

ta, i'll arrange to get it redelivered
.... and here's the maths:
Assuming a price of £1.35 per litre = £6.1371 per gallon (£1.35 x 4.546)
Your trip will use 25/35 gallons = 5/7 gallon.
Total cost = 5/7 x £6.1371 = £4.38 ...... like beckyboo said :)
If you go on to Goolge maps and find your home, you can input the two places in the get directions section on the left hand side. It will give you the number of miles and the cost of petrol. You can also alter the route if you wish.

I use it all the time, to plan roundabout routes which I feel happy with as I don't actually enjoy driving.
It's not just the cost of the diesel it's the other bits. If we have to collect its about the same round trip as yours but we don't go to this particular town very often so we always have a walk around and by time we've got parked up, done some shopping had a coffee or beer the the cost of picking a parcel up could have gone through the roof.
all in at work (including cost of depreciation of car, insurance etc) we get paid 40p a mile at work - that's one yardstick. Definitely cheaper to pay the delivery charge.
Really boxtops? we only get 25p but 40p if we're forced to use our own car.
