Yes she should have been punished , but this just seems totally ludicrous and out of all proportion.

Oooooh , agree with AOG 100%
"there's no reason we should expect them to be especially honest or ethical."

Really Zeuhl? I most certainly do have higher expectations of police officers than I have of the population in general. I expect them to be selected for their honesty and integrity. Apart from the monetary gain made from this offence it displays a prolonged and sustained episode of fraud against an employer and demonstrates a serious breach of the trust.

Looking at the sentencing guidelines (which is more appropriate than simply suggesting that the judge is an imbecile) I believe the sentence, if anything, was a touch lenient.
Comparisons with other issues (e.g. MPs expenses) are irrelevant - two wrongs don't make a right.

I agree with Prudie.

New Judge, it could just be me but wasn't Zeuhl taking the **** ?
@ New Judge - I think you may have missed the ironic/sarcastic tone of Zeuhls post... at least, thats the way I read it ;)
"If you want to know the time ask a policeman," was a Victorian music hall song suggesting that the London police were in the habit of relieving drunks of their watches.
Things have changed a good deal since then and we should expect better things from the constabulary. The sentence seems fair.
I think it's right, it's an example to the rest of us.
