Used to hate them but having gone back to basics and recently bought a proper charcoal one, plus small instruction and recipe book, I have to say I'm converted.
Will be firing it up shortly..gammon, Aberdeen Angus beef burgers and proper sausages, big bowl of salad, bananas with mars bars and hazlenut baileys, plenty of wine and beer, good company, what more could you want on a sunny summer evening??

What you need Eccles. is a decent smoker. Put a joint of meat in at about 9am and let it slow cook until 5pm Delish !!!
God help the neighbours.
Smoking is quite different to BBQing....... I do smoke many things, maybe not for 8hrs though...although I suppose it depends if you are going for a hot or cold method.
Hate them. Especially when the neighbours have them. The noise, the smell, the smoke. If it's a lovely summer's evening and you have to close your doors and windows to keep it all out I hate them even more. I don't know which is worse, attending one or a neighbour having one.
I love them when the food's cooked properly, but not the salmonella steak and cremated sausage variety. Plenty of wine and beer is always a good move, though.
Love a good one and you hit it, its the vino and company too - what the French call degustation, the whole parcel of the experience. To your list of elements, I would add a cracking good BBQ marinade.
We had a barbi in Australia it was lovely, thick steaks and sausages, chicken and burgers, cold beer etc sat around the pool, it was lovely. Had barbi it Britain thin scabby steaks, sausages and burgers burnt, cool beer, it was freezing cold, sat huddled under a table with parasol and patio heaters. Helluva difference.

Well, you shoulda come to ours then. Just nipped in for more wine, beer, pud and stuff, wunnerful!!! :)
BBQ is the local pasttime here in the centre of Germany. I've been to a BBQ in the snow; good weather is optional. But the only things that are cooked are Bratwurst (sausage) and Steaks (pork steaks, marinaded in something interesting). Nice but a bit same-ish. However things are cooked properly, not burned or raw in the middle.
I quite like the food but I don`t like eating it from a paper plate which is balanced on my lap. I love the BBQs on the beach that hotels do in exotic places though. Usually lovely seasoned fish and not a sausage or burger in sight.

Paper plates, paper plates??? No, no, no, nothing but proper china for our bbqs. Collapsing paper plates are disgusting, you need proper plates and cutlery.
Hmm, German sausages, now that could be interesting. We're having another one on Tuesday with pork steaks this time, might have to get some bratwurst too, maybe even spatchacock too..;)
