I still think she was good. She starts with pretty rubbish cards. When she gets the straight, she makes a small bet, to draw him in. She reverse bluff ... she bluffs being unsure of her cards. He is drawn in. He makes a big bet. She could go all in, but she calls. He is the one who goes all in. Not a good play ... as it turns out ... but she has been SO cool. And remember ... she is one place away from being champion, and she has a straight, but she could be knocked out by a low full house, so she's not home and dry. She does well to sit on some of her chips while the hand unfolds.

But players sometimes have to bluff, and bluff well.

He went all in, presumably hoping to bluff Vicky out of the hand.

He wasn't to know that she had a good hand.

But the reason he didn't know was because Vicky had outbluffed him by slow playing her own hand.

He was a bit unlucky, but if the cards had been different he could have taken the pot with those bad cards, and then we would have said that he'd played a good hand.

At my home casino (the Brighton Grosvenor) the poker tables are right next to the blackjack and roulette tables.

I quite often walk round the poker tables, trying to pluck up the courage to join in ... but I haven't yet been brave enough.

I like it for the social aspect, not for the winning or losing aspect.

If winning becomes important, then you can end up on the slippery slope to addiction.

Totally disagree ... winning is important but knowing your limits is more important.
It is when you lose a grip of your limits that gambling becomes a problem.

Say I go to the casino with £50.

If I come out with a profit, that's great.

If I lose it all, I've had an evening's fun for £50, which is also great.

A lot cheaper than, say, going to watch a football match.
