My TV (fed from a PVR) has suddenly started producing a hum - sounds like a mains hum - behind the sound.
This hum is dependent on the picture: a bright screen produces the loudest hum; with a darker picture the hum reduces and a blank screen produces none at all.

Any ideas or help welcome.

Check all the connecting cables are pushed in properly.
Can you control the sound on the PVR and also on the TV ? If so turn the sound up on the PVR and down on the TV . Hum is mainly generated on the TV therefore this method should cure your trouble.

Thanks, ChuckFickens, that wasn't it, but it's a good idea to check cables occasionally anyway.

modeller, you cracked it! I turned down the sound on the TV remote control and turned it up on the PVR RC and the hum disappeared completely. Very grateful to you.
