SIRandyraven, you very clearly have absolutely no idea of life in a prison!!
debtors' prisons in the 19th century were rather a special case. They're not really like that any more.
Do you speak from experience jno?
i reckon they find out if there is a space in prison first ...
I spent much of the 19th century in one, ladybirder. You could buy yourself a better class of cell, which I'm told you can't do now. They weren't really in the normal run of jails.

I remember nicking my mother's copy of Forever Amber when I was in my teens and reading about debtors prisons jno.
SIRandyraven you would need to get more than 6 months to spend the winter in jail. Any sentence 4 years and under gets automatic release at the half way point, so you would be out in 3 months. Then there is realease on tag for the last part of the sentence and the 1/3rd reduction for a guilty plea, you would do 2 or 3 weeks at most.
