Another Q whilst I'm in mood lol.

About 3/4 years ago I realised i was losing my sense of smell. I now cannot smell anything whatsoever - garlic, bleach, curry - I can have anything literally under my nose and nothing. Had hosp check which showed small polyps both sides - gave me a spray to use for a few months. Went bac and polyps had gone, but still no sense of smell. Said they would send me for further investigation but still waiting and could be months more. So what would cause this and do you think that it will never return?

I recall my father telling me his sense of smell went after a fall, and ws gone for many years, but came back before I appeared on the scene. So I guess these things can go and return.
No, I am afraid that is has gone forever.

You only chance is that if it was an allergic polyp which has now disappeared, then a course of intranasal steroids, might......might.....improve your senses of smell............but I doubt it.

Ohhhhhh, so what would have caused it to go in the first place? The polyps??

Gutted!
No idea.......could well have been the polyps OR a vial infection.
same thing happened to OH after falling off a horse. It did return. Osteopathy helped. Something to do with the nerves relating to the nose going up through the spinal cord.

Shall I try chucking myself off a horse then? See if it has the reverse effect? : )

Smow, I had to have an operation in 1995 and when I came round from the anesthetic I had lost my sense of smell. Yes it is totally gone.
My cousing lost her sense of smell after a car accident in which her face was injured and she has never got it back.

By the way, I'll lend you my horse if you like. But better wait until winter when she's pretty much guaranteed to buck you off.
