When playing a DVD the sound from the last TV Channel is coming through as well as the sound track of the film. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? More a question of how it doesn't work really.

I think you'll have to be more specific.

I'm guessing that you've got a surround sound system of some sort that's giving you the sound from the DVD but the TV speakers are giving you sound from the TV channel?

Without knowing the hardware and how it's wired it's a bit tough.

I'd check all the connections are where they ought to be are you feeding sound chanels into the TV from a satellite box or something like that?.

Its a straightforward tv with two speakers at the side, no surround sound at all. The DVD player is connected thru scart leads. I have a video player connected to the piped TV and then to the TV input. I have tried disconnecting this and connecting the TV to the piped direct. No good. Taking the piped comnnection out on ly leads to static over lay.

By the way, this all worked properly up to 6 weeks ago. Went to Spain and came back to fiond it all messed up!

Oooh that's a good trick!

I'd try removing and replacing the scart cable to make sure all the connections are good otherwise I'm a bit stumped

Yes. I had already decided that I should strip out every connection and start again one by one to see what happens. Thanks for the help. I will report on results.
i have came across this before in my friends house. when you press the AV button to watch the dvd the sound from the channel that the tv is currently on streams through along with the dvd sound. this isnt a soloution but more a cheat - turn the tv to a blank channel like channel 14 and then press the AV button. because there is now tv service on channel 14 then there will be no noise hence you wont get the new sounds from the tv and the dvd. hope this makes a wee bit of sense!

Thanks paddycar. I will try that again. When I did try it I got static overlay. We shall see!
i used to have this problem on an old tv. i think it was basically just a crap telly cos i never got it fixed (not that i'm saying your tv is crap of course!) i just hooked the dvd player up to my trusty stereo and turned the tv volume right down. then you get no static noise.

the problem is that the scart lead is 2 way - the tv is sending audio in a loop through the dvd player. solution is to open up the scart plug and cut cable going to pin 2 and pin 6. hopefully that will do the trick. NOTE: mark the plug you have modified; that should go to into the tv.

see here for a pic
