Got there in the end after a muddled start and it all fell into place quickly at the finish. I enjoyed this puzzle and for me it had just the right amount of difficulty. I love EV Sundays!

What are the Two Difters? Please help :/
Yes, printed entries are accepted T-W , so give it a go !
Any hints however vague on 46a would be very welcome. Otherwise no real problems.

Gen's comment will give you one of the drifters - 9 letters. If you put that into google it will point you to a poet. The other drifter is awork by that poet.
Many thanks Spreadman, you're help is much appreciated. If I can help anyone, please ask!
Hello everyone, managed to complete most of the grid but must have some letters wrong, despite Gen's helpful post, cannot make a name of my letters. Am a bit down and despondent as leg has been gouged for skin cancer and the pressure bandage is not only hurting but leaking..................fed up!
Hello DD. Sorry to hear you're feeling down in the dumps. It's hardly surprising, in the circumstances. I have a friend who went through the same thing a few months ago. I had no idea, until then, how invasive it was. Regarding the grid, it might help to get the other drifter, part of which starts at 27 across and goes diagonally upward. I'm still struggling with 25 and 46 across. Finished otherwise.
My raspberries are beginning to colour up, and blackcurrants are looking far too ripe, too. With a garden overflowing with horsetail, goosegrass and bindweed, I'm just not ready for the fruit.
Thank you Christina, after much staring in the early hours I finally got the bad omen and begun looking for his victim. As to 46, I haven't a clue but I think 25 has to be HM's corgi's (in a very round-about way - check the BRB under HM's abode entry) but for the life of me I can't see how they have got there....mind you, could well be wrong!
As to fruit..................oh, don't! I think the red currants are going to be bird food this year and I must now go and pick raspberries inbetween the showers.
We think we have bad weather, it's preferrable to the fires in Colorado/Utah etc, I wonder if drb is experiencing them.....................drb???
dd, the wildfires are a long way away (900 miles or so), although as hot as it is here we might as well be inside one. 108 yesterday, forecast is for 105 today, 104 Sat & Sun. I thought it only got this hot in Saudi Arabia. No rain for weeks, either. A good day to stay in my cool basement and work the Listener.
Oh drb............................do have some of our rain, we are the other extreme and not far away the mailn-line railway lines have been washed away. I wouldn't think 900 miles was very far in the US, especially as the wind blows.
Thanks for the hints everybody. Managed to gert 42d on the train to Exeter and have just got the other drifter.
DR. B. Hope you don't get the fires.
DD Hope things are going better on the health front.
Have yet to see the local scene of devastation ( the houses wrecked by the gas explosion 1/2 mile from here ) which has made national headline news this week.
Have finally got the last two, with a little nudge from a friend. Don't understand about the corgis, though, DD
Probably not the right answer Christina!
Or possibly right answer, weird logic! For sure there were no corgis intended in the clue as originally written.
Well done to all who got there, and I hope that it provided some kind of enjoyment. However, apologies to dr b for the let-down (it does not seem to have been your week, having also read your post for last week's Listener).
Regards to all
