I have just received a penalty charge which includes a photo of my car just entering the bus lane. The bus lane is about thirty metres long and there is no other car in site or bus in the lane..

I honestly wasn't aware that you could be charged for entering an empty bus lane. Serves me right doesn't it? I won't do it again!

Starbucks, the duty manager said it was because I didn't have child seats in my car.
Tilly2 - that's a nonsense because some mothers take baby in to the store in the car baby seat.
Whilst you entered into a contract and perhaps morally and maybe legally there is an obligation, the courts will never enforce it or at worst will level a nominal charge of under £5

Aw, that's made my day! Can I ring the credit card company and cancel the payment?
Poor Tilly. You are not having a good week in spite of doing your best for everyone. Cheer up. You will know what to do next time - borrow someone's baby seat if that is all that is required. Or perhaps you could find a cheap one in your charity shop and keep it in the boot for occasional use. Always a good idea to put your problem on here before paying anything - there are many who know the law better than we do.
Definitely worth reading, Tilly

Thank you all for your answers.
Ah. euro car parks have no authority you did not have to pay it.

is it a parking charge notice - or penanlty charge notice?

the latter comes from the council and must be paid - the former from a provate compnay
hang on! - you parked in a mother and toddler bay - without having a child with you - and then went and did a shift at work??

you left the car there ALL DAY?

Well then yes you absolutely should have got a ticket - what a selfish thing to do!
Question Author
joko,it was a parking cahrge notice and I paid it. I rang the credit card company and tried to stop it going through but they couldn't/wouldn't do it.
Question Author
^charge. It was a three hour stint and a huge carpark. There was plenty of room.
so why not park in a normal bay - if there was plenty of room...?
Question Author
I keep asking myself that very same question!
