I just bought grapes from a supermarket and they are so hard and unripe. I bought some Nectarines which were reduced for quick sale. They were like bullets. are all fruits in supermarkets just there for their long shelf life

Given up buying fruit from supermarkets. Never seem to ripen or go mouldy within 24 hours.
I get grapes every week from Waitrose.....they're lush.
What choice do you get?

On market stalls some gobby man chooses the fruit for you. At least at a supermarket you can choose your own.

I suggest you try going to Waitrose, it's a bit more money but a lot better quality.
waitrose few and far between mrs
Waitrose is best, bit dearer but good stuff
....and Waitrose "ready to eat" is juicy lishious
Yes.... they are gassed a million years ago to preserve them then let loose on our supermarket shelves so we may 'enjoy' exotic fruits all year long. If you've ever eaten exotic fruits in their native country you would know they bear no resemblance to the plastic fruit on offer in supermarkets. Their nutrient content is zero.

Many thanks for answers. For me Waitrose in16 miles away but they are great but Tescos and Morrison's fruit is awful.
Waitrose tried to sell me a one year old frozen pack of sardines. M&S and Tesco get their asparagus from Equador. All supermarkets are the same. The best food is seasonal and locally sourced. Unfortunately that kind of thing is hard to find these days.
Not all supermarkets are the same.
We have got Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsburys, and of the three Sainsburys are by far the best for fruit
Aldi. No probs.
We have nowhere else to buy them from. No green grocers', no market stalls. It's the supermarket or nowt.
Marks for fruit
More money but worth it
I bought some (supposedly) English strawberries from a supermarket today. They were completely tasteless. I think they must have been "forced" as they are in the US. In the US you get really lovely looking fruit but it doesn`t taste of anything. I think our supermarkets are going the same way. Another good reason to avoid..
I don't think it's the case with ALL supermarkets. Out of many taste tests with fruits, I've picked up that Asda isn't the best place to go for fruit. Namely Asda's mango pieces - although you do get a lot in the pack, these are really underripe and tasteless. I haven't tasted all supermarkets' mango pieces but I've found Sainsbury's, M&S' and Tesco's ones far superior. Nearly every week (or near enough that) I buy mango pieces from Sainsbury's - I seriously can't get enough of them!!
I go up the market, so fresh and apples are larger than you find in supermarket
I use my local greengrocers and always get to pick my own fruit. Always fresh and tasty. Also helps to keep small local shops open. I have found it is often cheaper than the large supermarkets as well.
