My mothers laptop is cluttered with all sorts of junk & i think also a virus. I was going to restore it to it's factory settings but it doesn't seem to have the right menu on start up & doesn't have any recovery discs?

Will the discs i have for my laptop work (it's a different model) or is there any other way i can sort this for her?

Doesn't >start>accessories>system tools >system restore work on your mum's computer then?

Yeah, but it'll only go so far back, i want to restore it to it's factory settings.
First, if you do a restore to factory settings you will lose all the personal files on the disk, so back them up first.

Secondly, no your disks wont work on her laptop.

Thirdly, all laptops will have some method to restore to factory setings. Check the laptop documentaiton and see if there is a section on how to restore to factory settings. If you have not got the documentation look for it online.

See if there is an option on the laptop menus to make some recovery DVDs. You will need 3 or 4 empty DVDs.

What make and model is your mothers laptop?
Do this START and then type in system restore wizard in search box. When it opens select earlist date from when the copunter was bought of was working properly. Comptuer will close and reboot and go back to setting for that date.

I can also recommened going to iobot.com and download Advanced SystemCare Free 5 from the product tab the link is near bottom of page this will clean all virius and spam etc.
If you do have a virus, once you have dealt with it, you may find that you need to turn off system restore before you restart the computer, as some viruses will reload themselves from system restore when you start up again.

Once you have cleared the virus and restarted, do another virus scan and if it comes up clear, only then turn back on system restore.
