You should have a lead with the printer that connects the two. I don't know much about them I'm afraid but when I bought a new printer recently, a Kodak Hero, I was able to connect it to the laptop by wireless so I can use the laptop anywhere in our flat and print out without any leads.
Does your printer have that facility?
You don't provide any details of your network setup but, if it were me, I'd connect the printer to the router thereby making it accessible by all devices which connect to the same network.

Parkdale, it is a wifi printer. Mark OH has just tried to connect it to the router but couldn't do it as adn't got anything that would connect them.
Earlier today he connected printer to his laptop, he got the setup wizard going and it said if you have a disc insert it now, he did and nothing happened.
Cannot try that with my laptop as have no place to insert discs (More of a notebook really) Thanks for suggestions both.
