IE problems

"Internet explorer has stopped working. A problem has occured causing the programme to not work correctly.Windows will close the programme and inform you if a solution can be found"......This is the message I keep getting on my pc and then the whole thing freezes. Sometimes it comes back on after ten minutes or so but the other night it didn't come back at all so I shut down in exasperation and have not tried it again until now. Obviously things are working ok at present or you wouldn't be recieving this message but can anyone tell me why this problem happens and what can I do to put it right. Many thanks for any help.

Because Microsoft Internet Explorer is garbage.

Download and install Google Chrome and never use Microsoft Internet Explorer again.
Which version of IE are you using ? If it is IE9 in Windows 7 then you should check your addons and disable the ones that you dont need and the ones that are taking too long to load. You should also run all websites in compatability mode and also turn off hardware acceleration if you are using on board graphics. You can access these functions from the tools menu.

Not everyone understands computers like you do. They're a bit of a mystery to some people (my mum for example) but that doesn't mean that their lack of knowledge should be derided.

Without further information, it's difficult to establish why you're having the problems that you are. Despite Mark's rather curt replies, it may well be an idea to try another internet browser (the one that comes with Windows is just one of many).

Try downloading another one. Here are a few links to get you going...

If you do insist on using internet explorer (though I too would recomend changing browser) then it's normally one of the add-ons you have installed for IE that causes IE to crash, rather than IE itself.

You can start IE in safe mode (with no add-ons) from start > all programs > accessories > system tools > internet explorer (no add-ons)

If it works in safe mode then you need to disable all add-ons manually and then start enabling them one at a time until you find the one causing the problem.

Thank you all for your help.Ironiclly would you believe IE has been behaving quite well so far but I may well take all of your collective advice and change to another browser but which one?????
I have to agree with Mark. I am a very recent convert to Chrome. With the ad block add-on the increase in speed is remarkably noticeable.

Thank you all once again for your help.As I said IE at the moment is working ok but if it goes off again I guess I'll give Chrome a try or Firefox maybe??
