I haven't seen any buttercups on my lawn for a few years. Anyone have an
explanation for this? Still get daisies, dandelions and clover.

The meadow next door is left to its own devices at one end ; the rest is sprayed and grazed; that end is always a mass of buttercups (and a good many cowslips too), such that passers-by stop to take photographs.Evidently, it's not local conditions (or global warming!) that account for their disappearance here.

Thankyou FredPuli43 for such an in depth answer.
I no longer have buttercups in the grass I mow but I do in the 'wilder' parts of the garden. I think like FredPuli says; they don't like being mowed down and just give up. This year I've noticed more cowslips in the 'wilder' parts too and on the side of the roads so a good sign.
