Mr. Muscle does the job. Take care though, it's vicious stuff.
Or you could apply a paste of bio washing powder and water, leave it for a couple of hours, then wipe it off. Saw it on 'how clean is your house?', the enzymes in the powder dissolve grease.
It's a horrible job Scarlett, and I tend to leave mine as long as possible before attacking it with Astonish. This stuff never fails and is gentle on the glass. Good grief, I sound like a second rate TV ad....!!

i use something called oven pride form lakeland limited it comes with a tray to put your shelves in, and a brush to do the inside, it is fantastic, and makes it less of a chore, you can also buy it in wilkinsons, but with a bag instead of the tray.

Try the services of a company called OVENU.

I believe that it is a nationwide company but they make a wonderful job and the product they use has very little smell unlike many diy products.

An excellent company called "the oven cleaning company" will have it spick and span and beautiful and shiny in a jiffy using non abrasive chemicals. They have a website, but I don't know it of by heart.

Alternatively, take it all apart and get some caustic soda from the chemist shop. Soak all the parts in it and then rinse. Shiny shiny shiny. Just remember to use gloves, it is VERY caustic.

I've got the same problem. I tried cleaning my last night using wire wool but it didn't work well. I am going to try Scatty Mare's bio tip.

Hi scarlett, Caustic soda is probably the strongest, most powerfull way to remove grease and gunge. However be carefull,
1. If you get it in powder form and then mix it with water never add water to the powder but add the powder to the water.
2. Even the smallest drop on your skin will have you rushing to the tap to wash it off and it is deceptively easy to splash on you when working.
3. Never let it come in contact with paint or plastics etc..... It likes those just as much as grease.
4. Never use any kind of aluminium container or utensile with caustic soda, it will get eaten away.

Come to think of it caustic soda can be a real pain in the ass to use, (but it sure can eat grease)

New stuff on the market and is top

I use Fairy Power Spray on ovens and barbeque grills and anything else I can think of and it's brill. Spray it on, leave for max 30 mins (time depends on how caked on the stuff is) and then afterwards simply just wipe it off. It's so effortless and easy. Sometimes you might have do it twice if it's really bad but whilst you wait put your feet up and read the paper with a cup of coffee.

Ainsley Harriett was quite right advertising for this
