It was invented by a norwegian seaman, who put it together using fishing nets, he discovered it trapped the air, and kept him warm,someone on the radio has just thrown his 21year old vest in the bin,do men still wear them these days?

i don't know whether it's something men wear now, they don't look particularity nice, but then again do men wear vests of any description, not young ones at any rate>

Of course we wear vests, or tee shirts are an alternative undergarment. It's blessed cold out there during the six winter months. Not seen a string one for ages, but wouldn't baulk at wearing one.
When I hear the words "String Vest" I always think of Rab C Nesbitt

I'd wear one under a shirt if it was cold, haven't seen them on sale for a while.

No, I do not wear them. I heard that there were strings attached!
When my oh bought me string vests, when they were all the vogue (a Lot of years ago) my grandmother accused my oh of letting me wear vests with holes!!!
