I want to buy a gun - please advise ....

I plan to put up (properly this time) netting on my windows so that I can open them to let air in without a cat getting out. I am 2 and 3 floors up and I am not too sure if a cat would survive the fall.

I want to buy a small staple gun to do this - last time I used a combination of duct tape and drawing pins and it kept falling down.

I want to buy a cheap gun but one that is going to survive my attempt at DIY.

Can anyone give me some idea of what to look for in a gun - I went into Amazon and there were tons of them and they all looked the same so picking one was impossible.

How about cable clips to fit the mesh rather than a staple gun done that myself when I had house kitties
Go to your local B&Q, ask, they are normaly very good.
What sort of windows are we talking about here Lottie?
Rectangular ones with glass in them ;o)

Seriously though Craft - They are just two square double glazed windows with two panes of glass om each (a middle rod) that swing out to open. One problem is that the handle on the bottom sticks out further than the window area, so the mesh and sticky tape was a bit of a dead loss. I asked a double glazing company how much it would cost to make sliding screens and they came back with £500 per window. I get a lot of flies coming in those two particular windows and also want mesh up because the cat pushes the windows even wider and jumps out on top of the conservatory roof.
'in each'. (Touch typing with my hands in the wrong place!!!)
Lottie... how about fly screen mesh fairly light gathering with the curtain makers weight strips threaded into the hem would keep flies out but the cat could push it out of the way
Rowan. Good idea, but actually, I want to keep the flies out and stop the cat from getting out that way! My post was confusing. However I will have a think about weighting the curtain mesh down. Thanks.
have you looked here......................

Would velcro or some sort of double sided tape on the weighted end secure it enough?

One of my moggies ate through the fishing line I'd used to secure net curtain to the vents of the fish tank. Devious little beggar.
i would suggest you make a wooden frame - or buy some picture/ mirror frames and remove the middle bit...and stretch the gauze over them, then hang above the window with hinges and a catch so the cat doesn't sus how to open it...looks nicer and you can move them out the way as and when you need to.
would suggest hinges at bottom, catch at the top so the cat cannot learn to flip the catch either
They are more like it craft. Thanks. However, these two windows haven't got a window reveal as such on window sills so the screen has to be very close to the existing window and the handle pokes out to far. Does that make sense.

I shall have to buy some net curtains ( :o( )

(Actually I refuse - I hate net curtains and there are lovely views out onto the countryside from these two silly windows)
I am going to have a think around your ideas Joko and Alba. Thanks. If they were normal windows in a normal brick wall it would help!! They are in a tile hung timber upstairs extension, hence the reason for no reveals or window sills.

I shall go upstairs in a minute and look at the mesh again.

I'd give them a ring on 01760 441423 and see if they can come up with something, they are supposed to be specialists.
Good idea Craft. Thanks
Rigid mesh cut to sit round the handle might do it with magnetic tape on the window frame
adhesive velcro would work
or perhaps those car window sun visors that you stick on with a sucker... if theyre the right size you can just stick over
Especially the more expensive super strong stuff
I used the mesh with adhesive velcro Joko. That's what comes in the pack. I got myself in such a mess and it peeled off the wooden frames because they are south facing and the glue kept melting. :o(

Rowan, how do you apply the magnetic tape and would it stick better than the velcro stuff?
