Is it poisonous to dogs or is that an urban myth? My OH gave me a rollocking the other day for giving the dog a bit of chocolate claiming it is poisonous but I have my doubts as dogs tend to have cast iron guts. So if it is poisonous what is it that is in chocolate that is bad? thanks

Read BOOs' link, 1st reply, it really is not good for them.
Yes, doggy chocs have no theobromine in them. It all depends on individual dogs, and even a small amount could kill some dogs, whereas a large amount might not affect others. Wouldn't want to find out the hard way which ones mine are......

Re the soda crystals, this reminds me of the time I was in a butchers shop when a lady ran in saying her dog was choking, I ran to her house and it was a Border Terrier who had got a small bone stuck in his throat, but he was not happy (to say the least!) at me trying to dislodge it. I told her to get some soda crystals to try to drop them down his throat in the hope that it might dislodge it when he vomited. She went off and came back a few minutes later saying 'couldn't find soda crystals - is this any good?' She had bought a tub of Flash! Fortunately by then the butcher had gone back to his shop and brought some soda crystals which did the trick - just in time as the dog was going limp and just about alive.
