/// The Prime Minister said the visit brought home to him forcefully the reasons why British troops are fighting in Afghanistan. ///

/// 'Here at the site of the Twin Towers, Ground Zero, here is the place to remember why what we do overseas is so important, so people are safe at home,' he said in a round of TV interviews. ///

Does he really believe all of this to be true?

Thanks jno but slightly different. The twin towers was a single event, The destruction of Coventry by the Luftwaffe could amost be classed as a single act. The memorial is for all those who died since the first world war.
That's distorting the Stats - as of when - as the dead year end was 27something and you should also include, 7-7, Bali, Kenya, Madrid, Aden etc...
rov, I don't understand the analogy you're attempting to make here. The destruction of Coventry by the Luftwaffe wasn't as the result of a terrorist attack. We were at war.
^^^
bearing in mind what the Geneva Convention said about targeting civilians that's a moot point

and of course the same might be said of Dresden etc
