ever heard of desalination plants?

I worked in the UAE for 11 years and it only rained about 20 days a year if that, no water shortage ever, same as other hot country's in the Middle East.

I bet you a bottle of evian that we'll have the wettest Summer on record this year!
Perhaps a bionic pipe could be installed from Lake Windermere down to the arid, dusty South East to fill up those empty reservoirs...I'm sure if it was oil a pipeline would be quickly constructed!
As for the UAE only 8 million people live there as opposed to the 60 million(plus about 10 million that we don't know about) who live in the UK.
Cutting our population would help :-)
Our garden isnt a showgarden either. Its only small anyway, so we can keep on top of it quite easily with the water butt and washing up water etc.
Pee in the garden and save water !
I have no water at all in my large garden and no access to it, it will live or die, its got two chances. The dogs do give the trees a watering everyday :)
Cheltenham racecourse waters its track from its own lake. The Government were giving tax breaks to farmers to construct reservoirs to collect water to help irrigate crops but have now stopped this and anyway this doesn't help if they are almost empty too. I don't know - one half of the country seems to be in flood half the time and the other in drought -if everyone in the country stood on the east coast of England and jumped up and down we could maybe swill down a bit of water from the West?
I see people who are keen waterers and those who never water at all but I don't see any diffrence in the plants in their gardens. I actual fact it is virtually never nessesary to water plants in the UK apart from when you first plant them and 'water them in'
