I will be purchasing a property soon hopefully. I will be buying cash - what is the minimum type of survey it is advisable to have. Obviously as there is no Mortgage it is as requirement of the purchase for that reason, however, I would like to have one carried out that will highlight any obvious problems. Would a full structural survey be necessary, and if so any advice on who to employ to do such a thing? Also I am buying a Maisonette, and am not entirely sure of the rules/regs to look out for with regard to this.

Look in your local Yellow Pages for a Surveyor (RICS accredited).

S/he will tell you what they include in your survey to enable you to judge which is most appropriate.

A good survey high-lighting potential problems can save you loads of future cash and can often be used as a negotiating tool over the purchase price.
Maisonette, Scraggy? Was it a new-build or a conversion. Any idea when?
Maisonette? I love it when you talk French Monsieur le Porn finder
Ah, Madame Overhead .................. I always put it back though. I have no need of it. I find that la vie actuelle has its own diversions..............

Scraggy, I apologise for the intrusion. La Dame au pinny has only recently been released into the community.

I am looking to buy a purpose built - but have not found anything yet. Mind you, I have only been looking for three days!

No idea when!
Ok Scraggs. I thought you were on one already. No matter. Jack has said it all in her post.
A lot will depend on the age of the property.
Good luck
