Following last nights thread about bills ........

The standard unmetered charge in Anglia Water region is £408 per year plus the rateable value element. Takes it to about £450 pa.

I realise with a water meter people can also qualify for extra low user rates, but what's the average metered customer paying in the region?

The leaflet says that most people can save up to £100 by switching. Doesn't seem worth it to me.

Ours was £980 last year with South West Water and it will be going up again as it always does in April. Ours is unmetered but when I enquired about getting one I was told it wouldn't be any cheaper.

Reading my bill it says we already have a meter fitted and if we chose to switch we have 24 months to revert back.
I'm with Northumbrian Water and I pay £20/month. I was told that a one person occupancy should be £18/month so I'm paying a bit extra because my daughter will be here in the holidays.
I am in Anglia region and metered and pay just under £300 per year for two people. Before metering £500
I was advised against a meter as my flat doesn't have good enough water pressure for a shower, and I have a lot of plants on my balcony that need watering

i don;t use loads but at that price i'm not switching!

Wow what a variation across the regios. People paying anything from £130pa and £980pa for the same service ie water and waste.

Mine seems to be a reasonable average and I think I'll stick with unmetered for now. I have water butts for the garden and I'm not fond of washing the car, but as a keen vegetable grower I'd prefer to be able to use the outside tap if I want to rather than worry about the cost.

Thanks for all your replies and I hope those of you paying £900+ can get the costs down somehow.
My payment book has come for the next year and the amount has gone up from about £40 a month for 10 months to £44 a month. I'm not on a meter and live on my own since my son moved out last year. It costs more for water than it does for gas & electricity. Beyond Belief !
We are in Essex, and have a water meter, two people living in the house, with water butts in the garden. Our monthly charge is £13. When we switched over to the meter our water charge halved.
