Coverage of premiership matches was unavailable on the internet until last August and the start of the 2001-2002 football season.
This is because rights to the coverage have been tied up in the league's contract with the television companies. A new deal covering internet rights has now been signed which means that you can watch premiership matches via a football club's official website ' you cannot however watch any premiership games LIVE online as the premier league has protected its lucrative deal with the TV companies by stipulating that any premiership league match can only be streamed after a delay of between two and 48 hours after the final whistle. For games played on Saturday, Sunday or Monday, the clubs now have the rights to broadcast up to 90 minutes of footage from midnight on Monday.
