... say at the Doctors or dentist, when you ask to make an appointment does the receptionist usually tell you what is available and then when you decide the best date and time do they ask for your name? or do they ask for your name first and then tell you what is available?

Just curious :o)

Mine always tell me of available appointments before asking my name.
i always say who i am when making the appointment,
Our doctors ask for your name first, I always feel that you are put into a if the doctor doesn't want to see you box.I've never been refused an appointment but it makes you feel uncomfortable.
Name first then who is available in my Gp always same dentist so appt options
both my doctor and dentist send text messages confirming the booking time which is a help when the weeks go by between getting an appointment and going - 3 weeks average. No idea if they asked my name before or after as it is not something that was a memorable part of any conversation.

Thank you for the mixture of replies :o)

I can honestly say when making a Doctor, Dentist or opticion appointment I have always been asked when I would like it for and then when the date and time is set have I been asked my name.
Reason I asked is I went to the opticions this morning to make an appointment for my 2 daughters, the receptionist just stared at me for a few seconds then said "....What are their names?" like I should have already said them! Then after telling her and she got them up on the computer she matter of factly told me "My crystal ball isn't working today!" It took me back a bit and I remained polite but walking home I thought I have never had to say their names first before agreeing to an appointment time. Infact I rang and made an appointment for my daughter at the Doctors only yesterday and we sorted the date and time before I gave her name.

Was just wondering what usually happened with others :o)
She sounds a bit of a "charm school reject" wingnut! I would have been most offended if she had said that, in a manner which obviously wasn't joking.
I suppose I always say who I am when I phone for an appointment before I ask anything

i.e. "It's Lofty Lottie ....................... bla, bla, bla. If I go to the Medical Centre, they know who I am anyway.

But the receptionist was just plain rude to speak to you as she did.
^^ agree with Lottie.

I usually phone and say my name. 'I'd like to make an appointment for either me or Mr Alba to see Dr so-and-so or wichever dentist'

Have a word with your optician about that receptionist's behavoiur. Downright rude.
Phoned to make an appointment with a doctor this morning and she asked my name first. Actually got an appointment at 4 today! When I phone my vet I say who I am and the receptionist asks me when I would like to go!
