Andriod is an operating system that "runs" the phone. In the same way that iOS is the operating system that runs the iPhone (or the same way Windows runs your PC).

As far as I know any phone that runs Andrioid is a smartphone.

If you want to use the internet you need a smartphone and an Andrioid phone will do it nicely (and cheaper) than an iPhone.

There are many Andriod phones nowadays, from many companies, and the Samsung Galaxy S2 is an excellent phone and does very well in tests in magazines.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the latest Andrioid smartphone, running the latest version of the Andriod operating system, though as it is very new it is unlikely to be cheap.

yes i heard they were both good but just looked and can only get galaxy ace on upgrade, some reviews said battery not great
I don't think many smartphones have good battery life. All those apps and gizmos they have sure do eat into your battery power!

do I have to have apps?
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S2 and have to recharge the battery every evening ready for the next day.

however I think it's a pretty good phone/camera/email. Only the battery life lets it down
You might think that your mobile provider is benevolent, giving you an annual upgrade of your phone model – but you are paying for this.

If you are happy with the features of the phone you have, and don’t want the grief of learning how to operate a new phone – I would start looking at alternative tariffs (which do not upgrade the model) – they will almost certainly be available at a cheaper price.
my husband has recently upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy, he's really pleased with it!......it does need to be charged often, but does depend on usage.....

After a 10 minute try out, i was hooked.

If you can get a Samsung Galaxy SII or an iPhone, go for it!
